OFFICIAL REMIX OF UK REGGAE/PUNK CROSSOVER LEGENDS ‘THE SKINTS’ IN A JUNGLIST STYLE..

The Skints in recent years have gone from strength to strength, recently drawing attention to themselves with a massive cover of Katy B’s ‘On a mission’ (with support from Katy B herself to name but a few). Their new single The Skints “Ratatat” (Due to drop on February 27th 2012 on the bomber music imprint) is a taste of things to come from their long awaited 2nd album..(Featuring rising dancehall star Parly B).

Lenkemz contacted the band in 2011 as a fan and suggested a remix of their tune ‘Murderer’ and after the band received a torrent of remixes from various contributors of which they didn’t feel up to scratch, they agreed for the remix . It was at this point that Lenkemz asked newfound collaborator and Jungle / Drum ‘n’ Bass producer Aries to be involved with the project and after several months of demoing, the remix was finally completed in January 2012.

Lenkemz is a producer of various mutant strains of urban music and dance, splicing Jungle through Grime, Bashment and numerous diverse influences thrown into the collage of sound that makes up one of his seemingly formula avoidant tunes.

Currently working on releases for King Pigeon (New label run by Warrior One), his recent involvement with Senseless Records,  and of late support from BBC Radio 1 DJ Toddla T, Lenkemz is one to watch for in 2012 and beyond…

The term was allegedly coined by a group of teenagers in San Rafae lin 1971.Calling themselves the Waldos, because “their chosen hang-out spot was a wall outside the school,” the group first used the term in connection to a fall 1971 plan to search for an abandoned cannabis crop that they had learned about.The Waldos designated the Louis Pasteur statue on the grounds of San Rafael High School as their meeting place, and 4:20 p.m. as their meeting time.The Waldos referred to this plan with the phrase “4:20 Louis”. Multiple failed attempts to find the crop eventually shortened their phrase to simply “4:20″, which ultimately evolved into a codeword the teens used to mean pot-smoking in general.

High Times Creative Director Steven Hager was the first person to track down the Waldos and publish their account of the origins of the term. Hager wrote “Are You Stoner Smart or Stoner Stupid?” (October 1998) in which he called for 4:20 PM to be the socially accepted hour of the day to consume cannabis. “I believe 420 is a ritualization of cannabis use that holds deep meaning for our subculture,” wrote Hager. “It also points us in a direction for the responsible use of cannabis.” …….

LionFire is a trio of producers (Aries, Gold & Jinx) from the Midlands. The act was formed in 2005 by Aries & Gold, who hit things off in the studio straight away releasing a few 12″s that went on to do really well. In 2008 they welcomed Jinx to the crew and formed Three Lion Studios.

The three have continued to work both as a group and individually releasing on various labels including Co-Lab, Pure Vibez, Lion Dub, Dub Dimensions, Deadly Records & Apex.

Lionfire have just signed 4 tracks to be released on Ray Keith’s Dread recordings and have a lot more to come.

REVIEW :

VARIOUS ARTISTS – STEPBACK SESSIONS VOLUME 3

World famous DJ Randall is in the house once again with his brilliant StepBack Sessions, Vol. 3. The man who brought tight mixing skills to jungle/Drum & Bass back in the day returns home to his label Mac 2 Records, where we see some old school tracks get the remix treatment they deserve. If you can remember way back then, lets say mid 90′s to be precise, where producers like Tom & Jerry, Slipmatt, Gappa G & Hypa Hypa, all ran the jungle scene with some killer tracks that bring back so many memories to old ravers and people like myself. But here we see all those classics get a good old remixing by some of the key producers in the current game. First off we get the incredible sounds of “Information Centre”, which back in the day would send ravers crazy on the dance floor. Serum gets to work hard on the beats and bass while sticking to the original template of this once so massive tune. Moving on now to my personal favourite on the EP, which is a track that made so many ravers put their hands in the air on a weekly basis at party’s up and down the country. Manchester’s own Dawn Raid teams up with North West’s A-Jay to create a classic remix for Slipmatt’s “Breaking Free”. Huge vocals come over your body and leaves a tingling sensation while the hard chopped up amen breaks and deep one-note sub punches you right in the gut. This one is a big track on the whole EP and will be in my set for months to come, trust me. On to track number 3 now and we see DJ Vapour get to grips with FBD Project’s “The Core” which again is another top notch remix. Heavy beats and heavy bass merge well with some key tripped out samples that will take your mind on a journey and beyond. Last but not least we come to Aries remix of Tom & Jerry’s “All Of My”, which again is another monster remix. Old school limb break takes control while the deep deadly subs take over your speaker box. Not forgetting the array of ragga samples and RnB snippets that goes with the track that make this one a big boy roller. All in all not a bad EP we have here as Randall takes us back to when jungle music was about massive amens, big basslines and just having fun. Out in your shops now!
